Top Dog-Friendly Hikes near Salt Lake City

Silver Lake Trail

Season: Spring – Fall
Location: American Fork Canyon

This is hands-down my favorite hike. There are gorgeous views all the way up with a reservoir at the top that you can take a little swim or camp out. The dogs love the lake at the top.

Tip: There’s a second lake above Silver Lake (Silver Glance Lake) if you want to go further.

Adams Canyon

Season: Year Round
Location: Near Fruit Heights, UT (North of Salt Lake City)

The waterfall at the top is one of the best views in Utah. My favorite time of year to go is the winter and the waterfall is likely to be frozen that is incredible to see. The trail follows the stream going up so the dogs can cool off at any point.

Bald Mountain

Season: Summer and Fall (leaning closer to fall)
Location: Mirror Lake Highway

This hike is located on Mirror Lake Highway and best for the fall because the hike is entirely rocks without a water source and can get pretty hot. Additionally, there’s typically still snow build up on Mirror Lake Highway in the summer and the road is closed in the winter, spring and sometimes summer.

The view at the top is worth it.

If you go on a hot day I’d definitely recommend bringing extra water for the dogs and probably some snacks for the rest at the top.

Lofty Lake Loop

Season: Fall
Location: Mirror Lake Highway

This hike is a mix of rocks and greenery and is a shorter and more relaxing hike.

Fifth Water Hot Springs

Seasons: Summer and Fall
Location: Springville, UT

This is a popular hot springs spots. There are several pools and is beautiful in fall. It’s an easy hike. The biggest thing is just pay attention to keep the pup from drinking the sulfur water.
